Employee Hanbook

The employee handbook is a very important document for any company that hires several employees. An employee handbook or handbook is a document established by the company that describes the rules, practices and procedures for the company's employees. In an employee handbook, the company informs employees of the standard that are expected of them. Generally the company also discloses important information such as benefits, leave, etc.

Employees usually do not negotiate anything that is contained in the employee handbook. Employers list all of their requirements and policies, and employees only need to review and sign the handbook to acknowledge that they have received and read it.

Employee handbooks are often very long and detailed documents. Despite this, most employee handbooks are not intended to be absolutely thorough guides to everything that surrounds the employment relationship. Rather, they are reference points for company policies, through which employees can also find how to access any additional information they may need.

How to use this document ?

This document should be used by a company seeking to make its policies and procedures for employees permanent. Employee handbooks are normally given to employees at the beginning of the employment relationship.

This document should be completed by the company's human resources department (or any person or department involved in hiring, welcoming and counselling employees). The document first requires basic information, and then more specific questions about the company's employment policies and other information that employees need to know will be requested.

An employee handbook is different from an employment contract. An employment contract is a specific contract used for one person and the company. Employment contracts are also generally more specific than handbooks regarding the actual conditions of employment.

When this document is completed, it must be printed and kept in the company's files. Then, each time an employee starts working for the company, he or she must receive a copy of the handbook and sign the acknowledgement page. The company must keep a copy of the signed acknowledgement page and the employee must keep the complete handbook.

Applicable Law

Employee handbooks are not subject to federal or provincial legislation, but the policies underlying the employment relationship are. Labour standards in each province and territory cover the different elements of the employment relationship.
