Letter to Change Flight or Claim Ticket Refund for Flight Cancellations Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus

This is a Request to Airline for Refund or Reschedule due to COVID-19/Coronavirus, which to request a flight re-schedule or a ticket refund. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some people are unable to travel on the scheduled date as some countries have completely locked down their entry and exit points. Some people also make decisions not to travel because of safety concerns. Therefore, persons who have previously purchased a ticket for their trip can use this letter to either seek a refund of the ticket payment or change their flight.

Under the law, a person has a right to receive compensation or a refund for canceled scheduled flights. Consequently, any person whose flight has been cancelled can request a refund of the ticket price.

This letter allows the affected person to explain the reason for the flight cancellation and either claim a refund or request to postpone their trip.

Note that this letter should be used to change flight or claim a ticket refund if the cancelled flight was due to the pandemic. However, for general airline complaints such as flight delays, lost baggage, or other issues caused by the airline the Airline Complaint Letter should be used instead.

This document should be used by persons who have purchased flight tickets and whose flights have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After completing the document, this letter should be printed and signed by the person sending it. This letter should be sent to the particular airline and one copy should be kept for record purposes. The letter may be sent in a letter form or via email.


Applicable laws

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Act, 2006 applies to this document. Also, the regulations of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Commission, particularly Part 19 which specifies the rights, duties and responsibilities of passenger, also applies to this document.

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 affirms the rights of all Nigerian citizens.
