A Grant Agreement is a document made between two non-profit organizations where one provides a donation of monetary funds, called a grant, to the other. The grantor organization, the one that is donating the money, can be a public or private foundation, or a tax-exempt non-profit. The grantee is always a tax-exempt non-profit.

Non-profits in the United States generally rely on grant funds to keep themselves going. After all, the goal of a non-profit is usually to do some type of good - they are not motivated by making money. Individual donors that provide small amounts of regular funds can be helpful, but most non-profits frequently apply for and receive large grants from organizations that are in the business of doing so.

These documents are generally very simple. The main reason for the simplicity is because there aren't a lot of terms attached to the grant. Often, the grant is attached to a particular project or need, but that's it. The document does not need to be extremely complicated.

How to use this document

This document is quite short and simple, as most grants are. It will request the basic details about the grant, such as how much money is being granted in total, the terms for the payment, and the purpose of the grant. It will also ask some details about the grantor and grantee's identities, and the mission of the grantor.

Then, the document will automatically input the terms needed to complete the Grant Agreement.

Once filled out, this document should be printed and signed by both parties. A copy should be kept with each.

Applicable law

Although there are no specific laws governing what goes into a Grant Agreement between two organizations, there are some laws and rules about federal grants. However, those will not be applicable to this Grant Agreement because they are only applicable to grants where the United States government is the grantor. In that case, the government would use its own forms to execute the grant.
