An Employee Disciplinary Policy is a company-wide document through which an employer outlines their policies on employee misbehavior and poor performance. Generally, these types of documents are given to employees at the start of their employment so that they fully understand what is expected of them.

These documents are not fully-formed contracts. Instead, they are policies written by the employer without input from the employees. Many employment policies are just like this.

How to use this document

This document is quite short and simple. It will only request the name of the employer and then some basic questions about what the process is like for the employee subject to discipline.

The completed document describes the purpose of the policy, what behavior is considered unacceptable, and the exact steps of the disciplinary process.

This is not a negotiated agreement, so when it is filled out, it should simply be delivered to employees or added to another employment document, like an Employment Agreement. On our website, there are also many other internal policies, which might be suitable for a company's day-to-day operations, such as a Social Media Policy, Remote Work Policy, and others.

Applicable law

There are no specific laws governing Employee Disciplinary Policies, but generally the document should give the employees as much information as possible about the employer's specific guidelines so that they do not run afoul of the policy.
