A Letter Requesting for Extension of Period to Pay or Discount on Residential Rent is a letter that can be used by a lessee to request for more time to pay rent and/or a reduction of the rent.
A lessee may need to request for an extension of the period to pay the rent and/or a discount due to an unforeseen financial hardship. In this letter, the lessee may help the lessor understand their current circumstances by providing the details of the cause of their financial hardship.
This request is only a temporary measure and the letter assumes that the lessee will return to the normal schedule of paying rent and/or paying the rent agreed upon in the rental contract. If the lessee would want to permanently change the lease agreement, a Request to Alter Contract can be used.
Take note that this letter is a request and does not guarantee that the same will be granted.
The user should enter all the information required to complete the document. Once completed, the lessee should review the document and, if all the information is correct, sign the same. This letter can be sent to the lessor according to the manner provided in the lease agreement, however, if there is no provision or restriction on the manner of communications, this letter can be sent by personal delivery, registered mail, or email.
The user should keep a copy of this letter and any reply for their records.
There are no laws that specifically govern a request for extension of period to pay or discount on residential rent. However, leases are generally governed by the Civil Code of the Philippines and other laws, such as the Republic Act No. 9653 (the "Rent Control Act") as extended by the National Human Settlements Board Resolution No. 2021-02.
